About the artist
Kristen Mason-Elliott is an Australian artist who is passionate about printmaking and has experimented with this style in order to create a uniquely personal and sentimental technique. The inherent theme within her work is the universal experience of nostalgia, using her practice as a means to connect to a particular time and place of sentimental value. Observing and spending time within a place is a crucial component of her practice. Immersing herself in an experience not only allows her to incorporate images into her work but also a whole bodily experience of one's senses. One key feature of her work is the use of a monochromatic colour palette. Her intent behind this is to simplify an image into it's rawest form focusing on highlights and shadows, playing into the idea of reminiscence and memory. Kristen Mason-Elliotts unique printing style reveal striking marks similar to that of an old film photo hence grasping at the echo of the past. The combination of observation, experimentation and reminiscence together create works capable of evoking a unique sensory experience.
