Artist Statement
The physical shapes in the world interest me.
There are patterns which suggest certain designs in my work.
Inspiration is often from my sketchbooks which have shown impressions of the landscape from Europe, Asia and Central Australia. Such sketchbooks can be the source of new ideas about landscape. These sketches are not so much true to the photographic eye, but impressions, say of a bridge in Osaka or the harbour at Capri where there is a story to tell about people and their relationship to their world.
I try to choose the media or medium that best tells the story of the place.
The church of Sagrada Familia needed to be a lino print, while the site of Cesky Krumlov suggested collage. The Illawarra itself works with acrylic on canvas.
The medium of collage was a stage on the journey to achieving the spirit of people in a landscape. Currently inspiration comes from our little piece of the planet, our villages and our location between the mountains and the sea.
Patterns in places would best describe my work
