Artist Statement
Michelle discovered printmaking whilst studying Fine Arts more than 20 years ago and became entranced with the process. There followed many years of moving in and out of creating art, whilst working as an educator.
In recent years Michelle has returned to the art, exploring printmaking as a way to interpret the environment she inhabits: the broad landscapes of the Illawarra escarpment and ocean shores, and the intimate scapes of private and communal gardens. Her current focus is with linocut, woodcut and collagraph exploring line and colour and how they balance within a work.
Of late Michelle’s work has shown a shift from detailed representations of her environment to an impression of the environment. This is explored through pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved through both intaglio and relief printing, at time combining both processes.
