Hiraeth: n.(Welsh) A spiritual longing for a home which maybe never was. It is a yearning for that which has past, a sense of nostalgia tinged with grief or sorrow over the lost or departed. It is in the wind, and the rocks, and the waves. It is nowhere and it is everywhere.
I attempt to evoke this sense of nostalgia for something that is within memory but beyond reach in my work.
My work is predominantly in the style of contemporary realism and I mainly work in figurative/portraiture and landscapes. I am influenced by artists such as Andrew Wyeth, Robert Hannaford, and Ivan Aivazovsky.
I have had works exhibited in NSW and WA as well as in the USA.
I have been awarded the JAAS Brett Whiteley Scholarship, the Immunisation Coalition Art Prize Merit Award, the JAAS Richard and Wenda Ashton Prize and was Highy Commended for Figurative/Portraiture at the Kiama Art Society.
