ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a Thirroul based artist, I like to play with colour and form, creating artworks in an abstract style. I work intuitively allowing the marks to determine the direction of the artwork. I am constantly moving in and out of chaos, eliminating and rebuilding seeking a resolution. The endless possibilities and the challenges that are presented by this intuitive and instinctive approach, and the ‘unknowing’ of what will ensue is where I find joy. Sometimes I seek inspiration from nature, experiences or simply an idea or a colour, but it is always pursued with a freedom to travel beyond, and often in a completely different direction.
I am currently working with acrylic paints on canvas but drawing and collage also have formed part of my practice, and I have experimented with printmaking and weaving.
For the past 20 years I have been a Visual Art teacher, where I have experienced the delight of teaching young children from kindergarten to Year 6. Throughout that time teaching, even though my own work has not always been at the fore front, I have been immersed in the world of artmaking, attending workshops and professional development opportunities all of which have informed my own practice to some degree.
I recently entered The Bryan & Robyn Carr Art Prize at Redpoint and was awarded 2nd place.
